Gruvan ligger mellan\u00a0Mariefred\u00a0och Gnesta och f\u00f6rs\u00f6rjde\u00a0\u00c5kers styckebruk med malm, mot slutet via egen j\u00e4rnv\u00e4g<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb tright\">\n<div class=\"thumbinner\">\n<div class=\"thumbcaption\">\n<div class=\"magnify\"><strong>Gruvans dag<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gruvan best\u00e5r av m\u00e5nga \u00f6ppningar. Idag \u00e4r de flesta vattenfyllda. Den \u00e4ldsta och djupaste,\u00a0<i>Porth\u00e5lsgruvan<\/i>, var en g\u00e5ng Sveriges djupaste gruva \u2013 mer \u00e4n 300 meter djup.<\/p>\n<p>Efter nedl\u00e4ggningen l\u00e5g gruvomr\u00e5det \u00f6de fram till slutet av 1950-talet d\u00e5 Lars Serrander med familj bosatte sig d\u00e4r. Familjen tog itu med den d\u00e5 mycket f\u00f6rfallna gruvan och alla dess byggnader och efter mycket arbete \u00f6ppnades gruvan f\u00f6r allm\u00e4nheten. Gruvan blev snart ett popul\u00e4rt utflyktsm\u00e5l med m\u00e5nga bes\u00f6kare varje \u00e5r.
